Tribute

Robert “Bob” Alvin Jorgenson, age 92, passed away March 8, 2022 surrounded by family at home. He was born on February 13, 1930 in Hayti, SD to Alvin O. Jorgenson and Effie M. Jorgenson (Stormo).
Bob married Mary, the love of his life, in 1951 in Forks, WA. In the latter part of 1952 they moved to Centralia, Washington where he worked at the plywood mill. Then in 1960 he and his friends Elden Pilker, Bill Miser, Bud Roush, and their families moved to Missoula, MT to work at the new Van Evans plywood mill. In 1962 the group moved on to work in the C&C plywood mill at Kalispell, MT. Bob and his family lived in Whitefish while working there. Then in 1963 the group went to work for the new St. Regis plywood plant in Libby, MT.
Bob and Mary and their three boys moved to Columbia Falls, MT, leaving behind Bob’s group of friends, when he was hired at the manager level of the new Plum Creek Plywood Plant in 1964. He later became the Superintendent of the Plant. Bob left Plum Creek in 1981 after achieving a position in Senior Management. He later worked for several other wood product companies until he retired in 1989. Bob was an engineer at heart, although he had no formal training, and all three of his sons have earned engineering degrees.
In retirement Bob and Mary enjoyed traveling, camping and playing golf with their long time friends. Bob enjoyed going into the woods to cut firewood with his good friends Carol Sorenson (deceased) and Steve Compton. In his later years, Bob and Steve made many trips up the North Fork to cut firewood or just go for a ride to drink coffee and take in the beautiful mountain scenery. Bob enjoyed woodworking and hunting as time and health allowed. As a civic minded person, he was a member of the local Lions Club, and served on the Whitefish Hospital Board of Directors as well as the Whitefish Credit Union Board of Directors.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Mary Jorgenson; son, Dan Jorgenson (Barb); son, Dale Jorgenson (Jennifer); son, Ron Jorgenson (LeeAnna); 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn Ziegler (Gerald). Bob is also survived by his best friend of 68+ years, Bud Roush (Kay) and his dear friend Steve Compton. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by siblings: LouAnn, Ellen, and Duane.
