RIchard Raymond Greenwald, 94, a long time Columbia Falls resident went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2017 in Spokane,Washington.
Richard was born on February 17, 1923 in Ludington, Michigan to John and Ida (Benzing) Greenwald. His family later moved to Saco, Montana. Richard enlisted in the US Navy and served in WWII from 1942-1945. He married Blanche Canen in 1946 in Malta Montana and worked as a meat cutter until re enlisting in the Navy in 1951. He then served in Korea from 1951-1955.. In 1956 he moved his family to Columbia Falls where he worked at Anaconda Aluminum from 1956 until retirement in 1985. He also served in the National Guards from 1961-1972. He continued to reside in Columbia Falls until this year when he became a resident of the Veterans Home in Spokane. He was an active member of the Assembly of God church, an avid war buff, memorizer of scripture and lover of family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Blanche, in 2009. He is survived by his sister Freda Ashe of Darrington, Washington and his 5 children; Sharon (George) Meier of Spokane, DIane (Doug) Ormiston of Maple Valley, Washington., Randy (Christine) Greenwald of Spokane, Larry (Pam) Greenwald of Superior Montana and RIch (Kim) Greenwald of Helena, Montana. He also has 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Service will be held at Journey Church, 5091 US Hwy 2, Columbia Falls ,Montana at 1 PM, Friday, November 3rd. Officiant are Rev. Darrel Newby and Rev. Rich Greenwald. Military burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Columbia Falls. Arrangements by Columbia Mortuary, Columbia Falls.
