Myrt Whitman Webb Jr., 74, passed away peacefully on May 23rd, 2017 at his home in Columbia Falls, Montana. He was born on May 9th, 1943 in Meridian, Mississippi to Myrt and Betty (Burk) Webb Sr.
Myrt grew up in Denver, Colorado and Lennox, California. He played high school varsity football for three years. He graduated from Lennox High School in Lennox, California in 1961. After high school, he attended college at UCLA in Los Angeles, California where he enrolled in ROTC and received a Bachelor’s degree in psychology. He later earned his MBA from University of Utah.
Myrt entered the Army in 1965 as a 2nd Lieutenant and served for 27 years. He served in the Vietnam War in 1965-1966 and 1969-1970. After the war, he was:
oROTC Instructor - San Luis Obispo, California at Polytechnic University.
oCommander of Artillery Battery - Rheinland, Germany area
oPsyc Operations - JFK Special Warfare Center, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina
oGraduate of Commander and General Staff College - Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas
oNational Guard Advisor - St. Louis, Missouri
oExecutive Officer, 25th Infantry Field Artillery Brigade - Scholfield Barracks
oCommander of the 1st Battalion 8th Field Artillery - Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii
oDeputy G4 Logistics I Corps - Ft. Lewis, Washington
oGraduate, US Army War College Resident - Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania
oDirector of Logistics - Ft. Sill, Oklahoma
oGraduate of the Field Artillery Advanced Course
oCommander of Post - Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas
·He retired in 1992, achieving the rank of “Full Colonel”. After the army, he worked as:

oCity Manager - Columbia Falls, Montana
oInterim Economic Development Director – Flathead County, Montana
oInterim Solid Waste District Manager – Flathead County, Montana
oInterim County Administrator – Flathead County, Montana

Myrt married Sharon Ann Wetmore in 1966 in the Methodist Church at Hawthorne, California. They were married for 45 years. In 2016, Myrt married Linda Jean Putman. Myrt was a member of the Methodist Church, the Flathead Land Trust, and the US Army Historical Society. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, avalanche observation, bicycling, camping, history, and politics. As a Microsoft Certified Engineer, he volunteered at the North Valley Community College in IT Security. He was also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children.
Myrt was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Webb and son Geoffrey Webb.
Myrt is survived by his spouse Linda Putman of Columbia Falls, Montana, his daughter Cynthia Webb of Whitefish, Montana, daughter-in-law Shelly Webb of Spokane, Washington and his grandchildren Chad Bowman of Helena, Montana, Sabrina Webb, Forrest Webb, and Gwendolyn Webb of Spokane, Washington.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 117 2nd St. West, Columbia Falls, Montana at 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 27th, 2017. A reception will be held afterward.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Myrt’s memory to the Columbia Falls Methodist Church to support the gift card program for foster families.
