Tribute

Leonard “Len” Carson Mitchell, 92, of Columbia Falls, Montana, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022, at Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation.

Born September 25, 1929, to Ralph Leonard and Vivian (Hopkins) Mitchell in Kansas City, Missouri, the family later moved to Boulder, Colorado where Len attended the University of Colorado. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army in his younger years.
Len was involved in sales his entire professional life, and worked on real estate projects in such places as Pueblo, Colorado; Elko, Nevada; and Palm Springs and Mount Shasta, California. He finished his career as the Sales Manager at the Meadow Lake resort in Columbia Falls, Montana, which he was involved in from its inception in the 1980s until his retirement in 1994. He continued to serve on various boards at Meadow Lake throughout his life.
A creative and unique soul with a sharp wit and delightful sense of humor, Len loved landscaping projects, gardening, fishing and reading. His passion for rocks led him into jewelry design, and he, along with his partner, Mary, began Montana Mountains Creations to sell handcrafted jewelry made from semi-precious stones in gift shops in five western states. Len was also a talented writer, producing sales manuals, memoirs, a history of Meadow Lake, and colorful stories about his pets.
Len is survived by his loving companion of 35+ years, Mary M. Lamons; son Clay C. Mitchell (Julie) of Columbia Falls; daughter Carrie M. Mitchell of Lafayette, Colorado; brother William A. Mitchell (Virgene) of Boulder, Colorado; sister Dianne M. Linden (Joe) of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; faithful pup, Peaches; and nieces and nephews Cheris, Kit, Britt and Stefan. He is preceded in death by his niece Bryn.
