Eugene Raymond McCabe took his last ride into heaven on April 28, 2020, peacefully at his home, with his wife and daughter at his side.
Gene was born on May 15, 1940, in Defiance, Ohio, to Ida May and Francis McCabe. He graduated from Paulding High School in 1958. After graduating high school, Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country for a number of years. Gene worked at BF Goodrich, Boeing where he developed technology for airplanes, and Plum Creek Timber Co. for 25 years as a Journeyman Millwright.
When not at work, Gene could be found in his barn that he converted into a shop. For most of his adult life he owned horses and would team rope with his daughter. Gene could also be found on his boat that he customized to his liking at every chance he got. He was a world-class welder and handyman that could weld anything to his liking and fix anything with the help of a few Keystones. He found solace in nature and was an avid outdoorsman, hunting many elk, deer and bear throughout the years.
On April 27, 1977, Gene married Karen Seslar, his one true love. They remained married until his death. They made their home in Columbia Falls after moving from Paulding, Ohio. Eugene will be remembered for his life advice, his knowledge of all things tools, his passion for fishing and his desire to help others.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, and his brother Jim. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, his daughter, two sons, his grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
A small gathering of family and close friends will be held at his place of residence.
